Tjappo's native country is Sweden. He is born by Birgit and Kurt Johansson, Raidis Kennel in Boden. I collected him as a little bear of eight weeks old; an endearing little black ball of wool already showing his particular character. He did not like the bag that was used to transport him in the plane and made sure everyone could hear this loud and clear. On Schiphol airport, he forgot his anger in a second and enjoyed all the interest in him. The acquaintance with the other Elkhounds at home was as we expected; Tjappo acted as a puppy, subjected to the interested sniffing noses and cautiously tried to find out who was in for some frolic.
That is how he grew up here, nurtured by our Bonne and having Bauskje and
Nina, the Young Guard, as his playmates. He loved the puppy training, in particular the moment when all the puppies were allowed to run free and play. The subsequent training was easy because he proved very eager to learn. I had to prevent him from doing the same exercise too often: once was okay, he was willing to do it a second time, but interest had faded if asked to do it a third time for lack of challenge!
Tjappo gained his 3rd certificate in obedience training, making him ready for agility training. He can express all his enthusiasm and energy here, and his swiftness and limberness have full play.
Tjappo comes from a line of show and working dogs. His first show at the age of hardly nine months, delivered him a 4th place in group 5 on a clubmatch in Brummen. He received his first
CAC when he was ten months old, and he had his points for the Dutch Championship when he was fifteen months old! We were able to add a couple of
CACIB's to his showing career also. As long as we enjoy it, we will be going to shows now and then.
